Mike Mayes Bio


Mike Mayes is the Treasurer and Director, Financial Services, at the Town of Newmarket.

Starting with the Town of Newmarket in January of 2001 as the Senior Financial Analyst, Mike has advanced steadily, resulting in his appointment as Treasurer and Director. During this time, Mike has led a number of major initiatives including: the adoption of new public sector accounting standards (PSAB), Newmarket’s Service Pricing Policy, and implementing many innovations and best practices in the budget process. He has presented at numerous professional conferences and has co-written an article for Municipal World. He received the 2014 Municipal Finance Officers’ Association (MOFA) of Ontario’s Leadership Award in 2014 for leading creativity.

Mike received his designation as a Certified General Accountant in 1985 and a Diploma in Public Administration in 2012. His previous accounting experience involved working in the private sector in a number of areas including manufacturing, healthcare, education and retail.
