Organizations Selected to Help Municipalities Reach Environmental Targets

2019-02-05 11:23:38 AM

The Canadian Government and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) yesterday announced a new initiative to help Canadian municipalities across Canada reach significant carbon emission reduction targets. Known as Transition 2050, the initiative will fund training and support delivered by 10 partner organizations to groups of municipalities to foster deep emissions reductions.

Canadian municipalities will work together through the initiative to develop long-term plans and projects that will contribute to achieving a low carbon economy by 2050 as identified by the Paris Agreement.

Transition 2050 grants, which covers a maximum funding amount of $400,000 and up to 80% of eligible project costs, are provided through FCM’s Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP) and are funded by the federal government.
