About the Program

Congratulations to the Host Municipalities selected to participate in the Ontario Municipal Internship program for 2009-2010. The participating municipalities are:

*City of Brockville *City of Burlington *City of Kitchener *City of London *Township of North Huron *City of Thunder Bay

Due to the high quality of the applications received this year, the committee's decisions were very challenging. We are confident that the selected Hosts will provide an exceptional experience for their Interns. AMCTO wishes to thank MAH for its ongoing commitment to this important initiative, and for providing funding support for 5 of the 2009-2010 Internships. We wish to extend a special acknowledgement to the City of London (a previous Intern Host) who has accepted our invitation to participate during the coming program year with the City agreeing to fund the full cost of their Internship. This investment illustrates London's significant commitment to developing the next generation of exceptional municipal leaders. Now in it’s third year, the Ontario Municipal Internship Program was developed by AMCTO (The Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario) in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MAH) In order to address the critical need to attract and train the next generation of competent well-rounded municipal leaders. During the program year, the intern will gain hands-on experience in key function areas under the supervision of a Chief Administrative Officer or similar designate. The program will provide 50 per cent funding (up to $20,000 per intern) to participating municipalities to subsidize intern salaries, plus up to $5,000 per intern for ongoing training and other ancillary expenses.
