To apply for CMO accreditation, municipal professionals must first:

• Complete the Municipal Administration Program (MAP) and Comprehensive Exam offered through AMCTO;
• Be a member of AMCTO;
• Have been, and still be, employed by a municipality for at least 3 years, or by an organization directly related to municipal government for at least 6 years; and,
• Demonstrate skill and knowledge in 4 areas of competency: municipal knowledge, management, leadership and communication skills.
