CORRESPONDENCE COURSES

AMCTO offers the Municipal Administration Program, the Municipal Accounting and Finance Program, the Municipal Law Program and OACA's Primer on Planning Course by correspondence twice a year:

  • February to May (registration opens Dec. 1)
  • September to December (registration opens July 2)

There is an Assignment Schedule to follow when taking any of the units in the above mentioned courses (Schedules are only posted on the various links above when registration is open). It is recommended that one Unit be taken at a time. Each Unit consists of a number of Assignments and a 2-hour closed book Exam. Assignments are submitted by email. There are two weeks between each Assignment due date and three weeks from the final Assignment due date, to the writing of the Unit Exam.

The written Examination requires the use of a Proctor. Suitable Proctors are outlined in detail in the Student Handbook that will be included in the materials sent to the registered Students. Generally, exam proctors are Municipal Managers, Clerks, Treasurers, CAOs or the Deputy of these positions. In addition, the Head of Council, principals, teachers, priests, ministers and officials at recognized post-secondary educational institutions. Once you are registered, you will receive your Unit materials at least two weeks before the first Assignment due date.

12 month EMAIL COURSE

AMCTO offers the three levels of Parliamentary Procedure by email.

This format provides the opportunity to register at any time. With each level, you set your own pace and schedule. You decide how often you submit a lesson (keep in mind that AMCTO anticipates each level will be completed within 12 months). It is important to design and commit to your own schedule right at the beginning. Some choose to submit a lesson once a week and others submit once a month. You will have direct email contact with the facilitator, Jim Lochrie. Once your registration is processed, you will receive your first lesson via email, and then you will be on your way!
