Employment Law and Human Resources Certificate Program for Municipalities (HR)

The HR course is a Certificate Program, with a strong emphasis on the municipality’s legal obligations and due diligence strategies related to human resources management. Upon completion, attendees will be able to manage employees more effectively. It is also one of the 4 elements of AMCTO’s Diploma in Municipal Administration (DMA). It consists of 9 modules covering various topics surrounding HR law issues. The first 6 modules are delivered through online access to the materials for attendees to review before attending a two-day workshop on the remaining 3 modules. It is approximately 16 hours of reading material for the 6 online modules and a teleconference is scheduled with the facilitator, prior to the first day in-class workshop for Q & A.

Although the certificate of completion is issued upon conclusion of the 9 modules, for those who are enrolled in the DMA, they will be required to submit a 4000 word report on one specific topic of their choice that was discussed within the 9 modules. Upon achieving the minimum grade standard, they will gain credit for this course toward their completion of the DMA program.

Resource Materials for the DMA - HR Report (including submission timelines) are located at the bottom of this page.
