Municipal Clerks Institute (MCI) - Level 2

MCI Level 2 will be offered on May 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2023.

MCI Level 2 is the second part of AMCTO’s education program designed for municipal clerks and staff who work in the clerk’s department. Level 2 builds on Level 1 and introduces management and leadership skills for clerks, including ways to think strategically and manage relationships across the municipal organization. It is ideal for clerks who wish to enhance their management and leadership skills or advance in their career.

Please note: 

  • If you plan to attend both Level 1 and Level 2, please take them in order and start with Level 1.

  • Attendance and participation are expected on all four days. Please confirm your availability on the class dates prior to registering.

MCI Level 2 Program Structure  

The program consists of the following components:   

  • Four days of live instruction and moderated discussions via Zoom, led by experienced clerks and experts in municipal government. Days start at 8:30 am and wrap up by 2:45 pm.  

  • Scenario-based exercises and group discussions.

  • Online networking with participants across the province.

  • A 250- to 500-word written reflection of what you learned from the program and how it relates to your municipality.

You will receive a certificate of completion upon fulfilling the requirements of the program.

Agenda

The MCI Level 2 program addresses the intricate dynamics and relationships that clerks need to manage across the municipality. The topics are as follows:

  • Evolving role of clerks and challenges and opportunities

  • Leading with purpose as a public sector leader

  • Building relationships to further personal and organizational goals

  • Effective communication and dealing with sensitive issues 

  • The role of the clerk in teaching, coaching, and mentoring teams 

  • Records management program implementation and change management 

  • Root causes, connections, and impacts—elevating your strategic thinking in a complex environment 

  • Succession planning

Refund Policy: All cancellations must be confirmed to AMCTO in writing. A refund levy of $226.00 (includes HST) will be applied to all cancellations received up to fourteen (14) business days prior to the event. Refunds are not granted for cancellations made within thirteen (13) days or less of the event date.
