CATEGORIES: COVID-19

The Province announced on August 20 2020 that in consultations with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, it is extending Orders currently in force under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act 2020 (ROA).

The ROA, passed before the Legislature rose for the Summer, allows the Government to ensure measures are in place to address COVID-19. While it does not allow any new Emergency Orders to be created, existing Orders originally made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) during the Declaration of Emergency are continued in the new Act.

With the exception of the following, the Orders have been extended until September 22 2020:

  • The Education Sector order will end on August 31 2020
  • The Limitation Periods order will end and suspended time periods will resume running on September 14th 2020.
This means that orders affecting municipalities will continue including: Work Deployment Measures for Municipalities, Certain Persons Enabled to Issue Medical Certificates of Death, Enforcement of Orders among others.

For a full list of extended municipal orders, please see the news release.
