The Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction has introduced the Spring 2022 Red Tape Reduction Package, the Fewer Fees, Better Services Act, 2022.

If passed, this Act will make changes to several pieces of legislation including the Liquor Licence and Control Act, the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Laurentian University of Sudbury Act, the At Your Service Act, the Fiscal Sustainability, Transparency and Accountability Act, the Building Ontario Businesses Initiative Act, the Mining Act, the Highway Traffic Act, the Highway 407 East Act, and the Licence Appeal Tribunal Act and introduce the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, as well as make several regulatory proposals and program changes.

Some of the proposed changes in the Act include:

  • Refunding licence plate sticker renewal fees paid since March 1, 2020;
  • Establishing a single window for business services, which will require service standard guarantees so businesses can track the information they need from the government;
  • Changing the government’s approach to procurement to strengthen the province’s supply chain;
  • Creating a Centre of Realty Excellence to provide more flexibility related to provincial assets; and
  • Removing tolls from Highways 412 and 418.
Proposed changes to the Fiscal Sustainability, Transparency and Accountability Act would extend the deadline to release the 2022 Budget from March 31, 2022 to April 30, 2022.
