Government to Review Regional Governance

CATEGORIES: Planning

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing today announced a plan to review Ontario’s regional governments.

The review will examine Ontario’s eight regional municipalities – Halton, York, Durham, Waterloo, Niagara, Peel, Muskoka District, and Oxford County – and Simcoe County, as well as their lower-tier municipalities. In total, 82 municipalities will be reviewed as a result of this process.

The government says the review will focus on improving governance, decision-making, and service delivery. This process will be guided by the appointment of Michael Fenn and Ken Seiling as Special Advisors. Michael Fenn is a former Ontario Deputy Minister, previous municipal chief administrator in several Ontario cities, and founding CEO of Metrolinx. Ken Seiling is a former Chair of Waterloo Region and served as councillor and Mayor in Woolwich.

AMCTO will monitor this review process and provide details when they become available.
