The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) released it’s 2021 Annual Report, Access and Privacy: Cornerstones of a Digital Ontario, on June 14, 2022. The report provides a snapshot of notable activities, initiatives and recommendations from the past year.

In the report, Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, Patricia Kosseim, renewed her call for a provincial private sector privacy law and updates to the province’s existing privacy and access regime.

Some of the IPC’s major recommendations include:

• A made-in-Ontario private sector privacy law;
• Support for digital literacy skills in schools; and
• Administrative penalties under the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
