Speech from the Throne Update

Yesterday Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell delivered a Speech from the Throne, laying out of the government's priorities for final few months of the current sitting of the legislature. In its throne speech the government identified a number of priorities that are relevant to local governments, including: 

  • Maintaining its previous commitment to create 100,000 new child care spaces

  • Continuing to make significant investments in infrastructure

  • Maintaining its previous commitment to create 5,000 new long-term care beds

  • Investing in economically depressed areas of the province, in particular by providing support for workers and businesses in regional, rural and remote economies

  • Continuing to address climate change

The Premier also confirmed yesterday that the provincial election will not be called early.
