The Ministry of Infrastructure yesterday announced an infrastructure funding program which the Government said will “help create and protect good jobs across the province.” Falling under the federal government’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and signed by the previous Ontario government, $30 billion in infrastructure spending is pledged over the 10 years in Ontario and is split between the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government.

The funding will be divided into four streams: rural and northern, public transit, green and community, and culture and recreation.

The first stream of funding is open to municipalities and Indigenous communities with populations under 100,000. Such municipalities and Indigenous communities, about 500 of them, will have eight weeks beginning on March 18 to nominate road and bridge projects through the province’s Grants Ontario website.

AMCTO will provide updates regarding information on the remaining three streams when they become available.
