March 2019
Ontario Budget to be Released on April 11

2019-03-07 1:26:51 PM

Finance Minister Vic Fedeli this morning announced that Premier Doug Ford’s first Ontario budget will be released on Thursday, April 11.

Fedeli outlined this budget as a “plan to return the province to balance in a responsible manner and protect what matters most, preserving our critical public services, including our world-class health care and educational system.”

During his campaign last year, Premier Ford promised to slash about $6 billion in funding from the annual $150 billion spending plan while also maintaining that no jobs will be lost.

Although austerity measures are expected in this year’s provincial budget, AMCTO previously reported that the Government will maintain the current structure of the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) for 2019. Allocation notices with funding details for each municipality are expected to be available in mid-March.

AMCTO cautions the Government on reductions and cuts to transfer payments, such as The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), in this year’s budget and in the coming years. As recommended in AMCTO’s 2019 Pre-Budget Submission, municipal transfer payments must be protected.

As always, AMCTO will provide updates and an analysis of the budget once it is released.
