Budget Update – Ambulance Services

2019-05-08 12:18:55 AM

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) yesterday reported that the cost of shared ambulance grants are now frozen at 2018 levels. Based on the 2017 funding allocation, growth in service costs for 2019 means municipal taxpayers will be left making up the difference.

On a related note, the government also plans to merge 59 local ambulance services to 10 for “better integration.” The Budget acknowledges that Ontario’s 59 existing emergency health services operators and 22 dispatch centres will be “better integrated” to streamline the way land ambulance services are delivered.

Local governments currently contribute $720 million to ambulance services while the province provides $580 million.
