CATEGORIES: Elections

Today, the Government of Ontario introduced a Bill which proposes to create a single register of voters for municipal and provincial elections which will take effect in 2024, ahead of the 2026 municipal election.

AMCTO has been advocating for changes to the municipal voters' list process for many years as it has been a significant priority for our members.

This news follows the announcement made by Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, in October 2019 of the government’s intention to give Elections Ontario responsibility to assume the municipal voters' list.

AMCTO looks forward to reviewing the content of the Bill once it becomes available and will have more to say soon.
