AMCTO Gives Back

Supporting two Niagara charities this holiday season and throughout 2022

In honour of #GivingTuesdayAMCTO is proud to support two Niagara-based charities this holiday season and into next year as our chosen 2022 conference charities. Each year, the AMCTO Board, staff, and conference planning committee select a registered Ontario charity to support as part of an annual initiative to give back while bringing together municipal leaders from across the province to share ideas, network and connect during the annual conference. For 2022, we have identified not one, but two local charities – Niagara Chapter – Native Women (NCNW) Inc. and the Hospice Niagara – that are making an impact in the Niagara region (AMCTO Zone 3) and beyond.

The Niagara Chapter – Native Women Inc. is an autonomous provincial Chapter of the Ontario Native Women’s Association that encourages Native/Indigenous Women to become active participants in society while remembering and honouring unique cultural and spiritual beliefs. The organization offers a friendly, connecting place to support Native/Indigenous women and their families through access to culturally relevant services and programs. Current initiatives include a strong interface with education, justice, health, and child welfare issues from infancy to beyond middle age. The organization is built on the dedication of members and volunteers and the Chapter is fully owned and operated by Native/Indigenous women from the Niagara community. Niagara Chapter – Native Women (NCNW) Inc. is a fully registered not-for-profit charitable organization and became officially incorporated in 1983.

Since 1993, Hospice Niagara has been helping people and families live well from the time of diagnosis, through to end-of-life care and bereavement. The hospice's programs and services are free of cost and support people in their homes, in the community and in the hospice residence. Hospice palliative care aims to relieve suffering, provide comfort and improve quality of life for people living with a terminal illness as well as their caregivers, family and friends.

As part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities we serve, AMCTO will be making a donation to each charity on behalf of all of our 2022 conference and Forum speakers. In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, we also encourage members to learn more about the great work being done by of each of these organizations and to donate today to support their growing community programs and services.
