Recognizing Contributions to the Association & the Sector

As the leading professional development organization for municipal professionals, much of our success can be attributed to the success of our members who have contributed in a significant way to the Association, to their communities, to the growth of emerging local government leaders, and to the advancement of the municipal sector at large.

The Prestige Award is presented to an AMCTO member (past or present) each year who exemplifies and is committed to the ideals of the Association and whose contributions have made a positive impact on the Association, fellow members and municipal professionals, and their community.

Recipients of the Prestige Award are nominated by their fellow members and municipal professionals and must demonstrate a commitment to:

Fostering and sustaining municipal excellence through their contributions to the Association and the municipal profession
Giving back to the sector through the mentorship, training, education, and support of other municipal professionals and/or through the development and implementation of sound policies and legislation that have positively impacted the delivery of municipal programs and services
Giving back to their communities through volunteering

Award nominations may be submitted by any AMCTO member wishing to recognize a fellow member (past or present) for their unique contributions. To qualify for consideration, nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must currently be, or have been, an AMCTO member in good standing for at least 10 years
- Must be nominated by at least three AMCTO members in good standing
- Must not have served on the AMCTO Board of Directors within the past five years
- Must conduct themselves at all times in a manner that is consistent with AMCTO's Code of Ethics and Values
Nominations must be complete with supporting background information and must be submitted by the submission deadline. Late submissions may not be considered.
All nominations will be reviewed and evaluated by the AMCTO Awards Committee following the submission deadline. During the review and evaluation process, the Awards Committee will consider:
- The extent to which the nomination meets eligibility requirements
- The degree of impact the nominee has had on the continued growth and development of fellow municipal staff and the sector at large (based on detailed information provided by nominators in supporting documents)
- The nominee's involvement in the Association and other community volunteer activities
- The nominee's ability to demonstrate that they have and continue to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the Association's Code of Ethics and Values
Upon completion of the review and evaluation process, the Awards Committee may:
- Identify one individual to be awarded (the announcement of this award is traditionally kept a surprise until the evening of the award presentation, however, the selected recipient's nominator will be notified in advance).
- Consider unsuccessful nominations for future years for up to three award cycles
The successful recipient's nominator will be notified and invited along with the recipient to attend the annual awards presentation held in conjunction with the AMCTO annual conference. The nominator will also be provided with further details about the awards presentation and any subsequent materials needed (i.e. approved description and photos, a congratulatory message). A profile of the recipient may also be included in one or more of the following AMCTO communications:
- The AMCTO Municipal Monitor quarterly print and digital magazine
- Awards email announcements and newsletters to members
- An Association awards press release and any subsequent media announcements or articles

Only those individuals' nominators whose submissions are deemed successful by the AMCTO Awards Committee will be contacted following the nomination deadline. We thank everyone in advance for their nominations — those submissions that were not successful may be considered for future years for up to three award cycles by the Awards Committee.
