Early Career Stream

The CDP Early Career Stream is for individuals who have joined the municipal sector in the last three to four years and are ready to accelerate their growth to take their career to the next level. Whether you're looking to enhance your skills to be ready to take on new opportunities, expand your municipal knowledge base, or network, this learning stream offers focused growth opportunities that will propel you forward.

Prerequisites

Participants in the Early Career Stream must have:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a non-management role in a municipality (or related organization)
  • Experience in or ability to gain experience in the following competencies for the Accredited Municipal Professional (AMP) designation:
    • Municipal Operations
    • Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Service Delivery
    • Managing Work
    • Communication

Participants in the CDP must also accept the program's Terms & Conditions upon application.

Package Overview

Upon successful completion of the package, participants will receive:

  • AMCTO Diploma in Municipal Administration (DMA)
  • Professional development hours for participation in four (4) AMCTO annual Forums
  • One-on-one professional development as a Mentee in the AMCTO Mentorship Program
  • Granting of the Accredited Municipal Professional (AMP) designation by the AMCTO Board of Directors
How to Apply

Applications for the Career Development Packages are now closed for 2025. Applications will re-open in July 2026. Please note that there are only 10 spots available within each stream — all applications will be reviewed following the deadline on a first-come, first-served basis. As a reminder, CDPs require participants' full attention, time commitment, and agreed upon employer support.
