The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has launched a survey to help inform the development of a modular housing strategy. The survey asks for input about challenges and opportunities related to housing innovation including those related to municipal bylaws, the building code, provincial legislation and regulations, and financing.
According to the ministry, modular housing refers to homes that can be built using one or more prefabricated components and are constructed partially or completed off-site and then transported to a property for assembly. Modular housing could be used for a range of housing types including mid-rise multi-unit housing.
The government has committed to making use of surplus lands to help reduce the cost of building attainable homes, and exploring opportunities to support modular housing and other innovative housing options.
The survey is expected to take 5 to 10 minutes and will close on February 4, 2024.
