Diploma in Municipal Administration

To obtain the diploma, you must enroll in the DMA and complete all courses (units) required for the diploma with passing grades. All courses must be completed within the following time frames:

• All four units of MAP must be completed within three years
• The two units of MAFP must be completed within two years
• All four units of MLP must be completed within three years
• HR and the HR research report must be completed within three years

All diploma courses must be completed within a maximum of eight years.

The DMA is open for enrollment year-round. You can start taking courses before you decide to pursue the diploma. 

Please note: Courses completed prior to DMA enrollment will only count toward the diploma if they fall within prescribed timing restrictions. For details, see section 6 in the DMA Terms of Reference.

The maximum time allowed for DMA completion is eight years, but it can be completed in five years if:

• Two units are completed each year (one in the winter and one in the fall) 
• HR is taken at the same time as one of the units 

It is possible to complete the diploma in fewer than five years by taking more than one unit each term, however, if you work full-time, please take each course workload into consideration. Many students find it challenging to take on more than one unit at a time while working full-time. 

There are two ways to enroll:

1. Check off the DMA option when you register for any one of the courses required under the diploma; or
2. Request to enroll by email.

Fees must be paid individually for each course at the time of registration. However, the following is a summary of the total costs for each component of the DMA:

• MAP (four units): $1,540.00 +HST for correspondence format or $1,900.00 +HST for Zoom format
• MAFP (two units): $770.00 +HST for correspondence format or $950.00 +HST for Zoom format
• MLP (four units): $1,540.00 +HST for correspondence format or $1,900.00 +HST for Zoom format
• Employment Law & HR/HR research report: $1,540.00 +HST 

Please note: Tuition fees are subject to change each year. 

Individuals who have a minimum of five years of relevant municipal experience in a senior supervisory role may be eligible to challenge a MAP, MAFP, or MLP unit instead of taking the full course. Please see the MAP, MAFP, and MLP pages for details.

Note: There is no challenge option for the Employment Law & HR program.

Individuals who have completed equivalent academic courses or possess relevant professional designations may be eligible for exemption from certain diploma elements. Please see the MAP, MAFP, MLP, and HR pages for details.
