Town of Deseronto

The Town of Deseronto is a lower‑tier municipality with a population of 1,900, located in the southeast corner of Hastings County on the picturesque Bay of Quinte waterfront. It offers a charming small-town lifestyle with great amenities and easy access to the larger centres of Belleville and Kingston.

Our client has an immediate opening for a Treasurer, who will report to The Town Manager and Council. This position fulfills the responsibilities of the Treasurer, as defined in the Ontario Municipal Act, for effective administration and overall operation of the Finance Department. This includes the day‑to‑day hands on management of financial reporting systems, budget coordination, tax and utility billing and collection, contract oversight and the annual audit process. 

This role is supported by collaboration with the municipal management team and broader support through the Hastings County Clerks and Treasurers Association. This role is a critical member of the leadership team in an environment that provides a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of municipal administration.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good communication, analytical, and organizational skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a small administrative team, staff, Council, and the public. 
  • A post‑secondary education in Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of related experience in a municipal environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Municipal Act, Municipal Elections Act, and MFIPPA. 
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems such as MuniSoft and Microsoft Office. 
  • CPA designation or AMCTO certification (or in progress). 

Compensation: is $86,500 - $101,800 plus OMERS pension and a comprehensive benefits plan.
