Mentorship Program

Our Mentorship Program provides members with opportunities for one-on-one coaching and professional development. The program facilitates meaningful connections by matching those new to the municipal sector with more experienced, senior professionals and municipal leaders who can provide professional guidance and support. The program is free and open to all AMCTO members in good standing.

2025-2026 Program Applications

We are no longer accepting mentor and mentee applications. Thank you in advance to those who have applied. Successful matches will be contacted by the end of August, with the formal program beginning in September.  Applications for the 2026-2027 program will open in June 2026.

Goals of the Program

  • Leverage the value of professional local government experience
  • Develop the mentorship capacity of local government professionals
  • Establish meaningful relationships for members and those within the sector

We believe that by guiding and supporting program participants throughout their mentor-mentee relationship, there is an opportunity to build and develop knowledge and practical skills within the sector — allowing for the necessary transferring of tools and expertise to empower the next generation of municipal leaders.

"I was nervous entering the Mentorship Program because I had never been a part of something like this before, and being new to municipal government it was nice to know there was a program offered allowing me to not only meet more professionals but to also learn one on one from them.

I cannot emphasize how great of an experience it was as I learnt from someone outside of my own organization, who was able to give me perspective and guidance while feeling support and knowing I could trust my mentor. Not only have I found someone who I know will continue to mentor me outside of the program, but they have become a friend as well."
