Board Discovery Program

The Board Discovery Program offers members an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the governance of the Association. Participants will have the chance to learn about the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, engage in discussions with the Executive Director and Immediate Past-President, and observe a Board meeting in action. This program will provide a platform for members to explore how decisions are made and how they can contribute to the Association's direction. Whether you're looking to enhance your understanding of the Association, explore leadership opportunities or see yourself considering candidacy for a spot on the Board of Directors, this program is a valuable experience for all members.

How It Works

Apply

Those who are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to apply through our intake form below. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis and members will be contacted by AMCTO staff to confirm their participation in the program. This program is free and open to all members to apply.

Attend an Introductory Meeting with the Immediate Past President

Participants will have an introductory virtual call with our Association's Immediate Past President. During this meeting, you'll have the chance to ask questions about what it's like volunteering and serving on the Board and committees at AMCTO, and hear an overview of how our Board works together to support members and the broader municipal community.

Attend a Meeting with the Executive Director

Participants will have a virtual call with our Association's Executive Director. Learn more about the Association's day-to-day operations and how staff interact with the Board and volunteer groups to advance our Strategic Plan.

Attend Upcoming Board Meetings

Sit in and observe one of our upcoming Board meetings — get a first-hand look at how Association governance decisions are made and meet the full 2024-2025 Board of Directors.

Ready to Get Involved?

We want to encourage the next generation of municipal and Association leaders to get involved. Placements in the program will run for approximately three months to provide participants with ample time to engage in discussions and come away with new knowledge about contributing to and/or serving on a Board and related volunteer committees.

Applications are open to all members on a year-round basis.

AMCTO is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and values the voices, lived experiences and perspectives of individuals of all backgrounds. It is important that our Association reflects the diverse communities we serve. We strongly encourage AMCTO members from diverse backgrounds to apply.
