Business Process Insight Initiative

Peterborough County

The County is launching a major modernization effort to prepare for an upcoming enterprise resource planning (ERP) system replacement, a transformative initiative that will reshape how internal operations, financial management, human resources, procurement, and other core functions are supported across departments. To ensure a successful transition, the County is undertaking a comprehensive review of its existing business processes using innovative, AI‑powered business process management (BPM) software.

This initiative will apply proven methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Value Stream Mapping to identify inefficiencies, eliminate waste, improve workflow quality, and create standardization across departments. By combining these structured improvement frameworks with advanced BPM capabilities, the County aims to build clear, data‑driven insights into current-state processes, uncover root causes of operational challenges, and define future-state processes that are simplified, efficient, and ERP‑ready.

This internship opportunity will play a key role in supporting this work. The selected intern will contribute to a County-wide project that leverages AI tools and continuous improvement methodologies to map, analyze, and enhance internal processes. Responsibilities may include assisting with workflow documentation, evaluating process performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting the development of streamlined, measurable, and scalable business processes. The work will directly inform ERP readiness while also identifying broader operational improvement opportunities that will strengthen service delivery, cross‑departmental collaboration, and long-term organizational effectiveness.
