Job Profile
The Supervisor of Financial Planning – Operating is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day execution, review, and coordination of the City’s operating budget, forecasting, and variance analysis activities. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Planning, Deputy Treasurer, the role provides direct supervision to assigned financial planning staff and ensures consistent application of financial policies, processes, and standards.
The position supports assigned departments and corporate functions by providing financial guidance, analysis, and issue resolution. The Supervisor ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of operating financial information and escalates complex, non‑routine, or policy‑related matters to the Manager as required.
What you will be doing
- Oversees the preparation and consolidation of operating budgets and multi year forecasts, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with corporate guidelines.
- Supervises and reviews the work of Financial Analysts and Senior Financial Analysts assigned to operating budget activities, providing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Supports assigned departments and corporate functions in budget development, forecasting, variance analysis, and issue resolution, including acting as a primary financial contact where required.
- Reviews variance explanations, forecast submissions, and financial analysis to ensure compliance with financial policies and standards.
- Coordinates timelines, deliverables, and review cycles for operating budget and forecast activities.
- Identifies operational issues, risks, or inconsistencies and escalates matters requiring policy interpretation or corporate consideration to the Manager.
- Provides input into process improvements, templates, and tools to strengthen operating budget consistency and quality.
- Supports preparation of financial reports and updates for senior leadership as assigned.
- Ensures compliance with reporting requirements related to grant funding. Assists in the preparation and review of grant applications and reporting for assigned programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- University degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Experience and Knowledge
- Four (4) years of experience in municipal financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Advanced experience using Excel.
- Experience using FMW considered an asset.

- Valid G driver's license.
- Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour (may be obtained post offer).
Your compensation
- This position is within Grade 6 of the non-union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $107,360 - $130,932. We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

- Enrolment in Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
Hours of work
The current regular hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings as required.
Location of position
This position is located at Cambridge City Hall, 50 Dickson Street, Cambridge, Ontario.
