Position Overview:

  • Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Municipal Clerk is responsible to perform all statutory duties as outlined in the Municipal Act and other applicable legislation. The Municipal Clerk provides recording services and policy advice to Council and Committees and is responsible for the preparation of reports, resolutions, by-laws, and minutes. This position involves coordination of municipal licensing, vital statistics, records management, communications, accessibility, administration of Freedom of Information requests and municipal elections. The Clerk supervises the Communications Coordinator, Records and Elections Coordinator, and the Deputy Clerk/Lottery Licensing Officer. 

Hours of work: 38 hours per week, primarily Monday to Friday.

Compensation: $115,714.56 to $135,375.76 per annum (to commensurate with experience).

Reason:  Temporary vacancy up to 12 months.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field;
  • Completion of Municipal Administration Program (MAP) offered through AMCTO or CMO designation with membership in the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a municipal government setting within a Clerk’s function;
  • Must have knowledge of provincial statutes, municipal legislation/regulations including the Municipal Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Municipal Elections Act, and related legislation;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to be able to prepare reports and presentations to Council;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software;
  • Excellent time management, analytical, organizational and leadership skills;
  • Experience in records management and Municipal Elections.
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check.
