The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for one (1) existing permanent, full-time position of Tax Coordinator.
Oversees the full-cycle property taxation program, including the accurate and timely issuance of tax bills, processing of adjustments, and proactive collection of tax arrears. Ensures compliance with the Municipal Act and Assessment Act. Additionally, supports in the Finance Department by serving as a backup for utility billing.
The Township offers flexible work arrangements, including an opportunity for this position to participate in our 4-day work week program.
Position Responsibilities
The usual responsibilities of the position are:
- Provide customer service in person, by phone, and email, requiring knowledge of tax legislation and municipal policies.
- Handle property tax billing, collections, and resident education.
- Administer billing procedures, manage revenues, and handle complaints.
- Collect and receive tax payments, respond to tax-related concerns.
- Calculate and distribute tax billings, penalties, and interest.
- Support tax issues during the budget process and prepare related entries.
- Process pre-authorized payments and maintain tax roll information.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, working with agencies (MPAC, OPTA).
- Assist with water/wastewater billings, collections, and customer service.
- Provide collection assistance and handle payments and receipts.
- Balance deposits and process reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of a Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field.
- Completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program (MTAP), or to be completed within the first two (2) years of employment.
- Minimum 2 to 5 years related work experience, preferably in a municipal finance department.
- Knowledge of municipal taxation and assessment legislation, including the Municipal Act, Assessment Act, Tenancy Act, and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Knowledge of municipal water/wastewater billing and collection processes.
- Good interpersonal and public relations skills, as well as the ability to work well in a team environment and to function independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work schedules, meet deadlines, complete assigned duties within timelines and deal with conflicting priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required with the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with other levels of government and the general public.
- Proven ability to handle conflict including excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills, as well as email, document management and Internet proficiency is essential.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP Property Tax and Utility billing modules would be considered an asset.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of information is critical.
- Due to the responsibilities of this position, you will be required to have a Police Information Check satisfactory to the Township.
Rate of Pay
The Township of Springwater offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan, including participation in the OMERS pension plan for this position. Compensation for this position is currently $67,462 to $78,921 per annum (2026 rate).
Hours of Work
This position will work 35 hours per week; however, occasional hours outside of normal business hours will be required.
