Andrea Schwartz

In her role, Andrea oversees a team of two managers and 18 mediators who investigate and attempt to informally resolve access and correction appeals under Ontario’s public sector freedom of information legislation. Andrea joined the IPC as a mediator in 1991 as part of the first municipal team created to process appeals under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Following a 25-year stint as an IPC mediator, Andrea became a mediation manager and has been the director of mediation for the last four years. 

Prior to joining the IPC, Andrea held positions as an investigator at Ombudsman Ontario, a legal researcher at Legislative Council Services, and a mediator at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. Andrea has a B.A. in psychology, a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, and certificates in mediation from the Law Society of Upper Canada, the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, and the Stiff Feld Handy Group.
