New Process for AMCTO Accreditations

Date Published

Our sector-leading professional accreditation programs raise the bar of Ontario municipal excellence by advancing the profession and showcasing members' municipal expertise. Each AMCTO accreditation program — the Certified Municipal Officer (CMO), the Accredited Municipal Professional (AMP), and the Accredited Ontario Municipal Clerk (AOMC) — reflects members' commitment to continuous learning and professional development. To help assist members in achieving their designations, we've recently made improvements to each program to streamline the registration, submission, and approval process.

What's New

  • Easier application process — all candidates will review their accreditation program requirements, documents, and other resources, and submit their final application(s) within our online learning platform, AMCTO Connect. This platform allows users to move through each step of the process within a centralized system to ensure all supporting documents and required forms are accounted for and reviewers can access materials all in one place.
  • Mentorship support — once registered, each candidate will be assigned a program mentor for CMO and AMP designations. Mentors have gone through the accreditation process themselves and are available to answer questions, provide support and advice for candidates as they work through compiling their submission(s).
  • Accreditation program registration — members will now formally register for an accreditation program. Payment for the program will be required following AMCTO staff's verification of your prerequisites. Advanced registration and payment provides greater clarity to members and allows us to better allocate resources to serve those in each accreditation program.
  • Completion deadlines — once registered in a program, candidates will have specific program timelines to complete their accreditation. Defined timelines will give members increased direction, allowing them to better manage their time when completing their application(s).

Note: These changes are only in effect for new candidates — those currently enrolled in an accreditation program will continue with the current process to submit their final application(s).

Our goal is to always ensure members have the resources, tools, and support they need to succeed. We hope this new process helps to encourage more of our members and prospective members — including those currently enrolled in our Municipal Administration Program (MAP) and other AMCTO education courses — to pursue and maintain their accreditations. We encourage you to review specific program requirements on our accreditation web pages.
