The Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) of Ontario has released its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, outlining the office’s goals and strategies for the next four years. Within the new plan, the IPC has highlighted a few key updates that may be of interest to members, including:
- A greater emphasis on real-world impact and achieving concrete and demonstrable results for Ontarians;
- A more explicit acknowledgement that we are in a time of “digital intensification”;
- Strengthened approaches to accessibility, equity, and inclusion, and pragmatism and continuous improvement; and
- A new value focused on innovation.
As we continue to advocate for a review and modernization of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), we are pleased to see the IPC acknowledge that we are in an era of digital transformation and intensification, and look forward to their efforts to work towards continuous improvement.
