Pedal Pub Pilot: Alcohol Now Permitted

As of July 1, 2025, alcohol may be permitted to be sold, served and consumed on large quadricycles, also known as pedal pubs.  This change is being made through an amendment to O.Reg. 746/21: Licensing under the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019.

Pedal pubs have been allowed in Ontario since the government announced a 10-year pilot project in 2022. However, under previous rules, alcohol was not permitted. In order to sell and serve alcohol on pedal pubs, a licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is required.

Pedal pubs are allowed to operate only if the local municipality passes a bylaw to permit their use. Municipalities must also inform the Ministry of Transportation that they are participating in the program, provide information to the ministry annually, and report collisions involving injury or property damage to the police.

Further considerations for municipalities regarding the pedal pub pilot can be found in the Ministry of Transportation’s guidelines for municipalities
