The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade has posted a consultation on the Environmental Registry of Ontario to inform the development of a regulatory framework under the Special Economic Zones Act, 2025. The framework will establish the criteria for designating zones, projects, and proponents.
This consultation is relevant for municipalities as under the legislation, trusted proponents and/or designated projects could be exempt from requirements or provisions of other legislation, including municipal bylaws.
