Position:

Manager of Human Resources and Health & Safety

Municipality:

Municipality of North Middlesex

"For me, local government is about more than policies and processes - it’s about people, impact, and leaving things better than I found them."
About Me:

Outside of work, I’m deeply committed to giving back through volunteerism and charitable initiatives, including supporting the Terry Fox Run, GoodLife Kids Foundation, and other local causes. Contributing to my community in these ways allows me to make a meaningful impact while staying connected to causes I care about.

I truly cherish time spent with my family, friends, adorable nieces, and playful dog nephews, as those relationships keep me grounded. I also prioritize fitness and exercise to maintain both my physical and mental well-being, and I’m an avid reader who enjoys everything from personal growth books to escaping into new worlds.

Recently, I’ve taken up painting pottery, which has been a fun and creative way to unwind. Altogether, these activities bring me balance, fulfillment, and joy, helping me recharge while continuing to make a positive difference in the community.

Why did you get involved with/pursue a career in local government?

I wanted to make a meaningful difference close to home. Municipal work directly impacts the daily lives of residents, and I was drawn to the opportunity to build stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

In my role, I get to support the people who deliver those essential services - whether that’s public works, recreation, fire, or administration. I’m passionate about creating positive employee experiences, fostering safe and inclusive workplaces, and ensuring staff feel supported so they can, in turn, provide the best service to the community.

What is one thing members of the public would be surprised to learn about your role?

One thing people may not realize is that it isn’t just about policies and paperwork. A large part of HR is supporting people through some of the most challenging moments of their careers and creating a sense of psychological safety in the workplace. What may surprise people is how wide-reaching the role is - touching every department in the Municipality, from public works to fire services to recreation - to make sure every employee, whether a paid on-call firefighter or an office administrator, has the tools and support they need to serve the community. At its core, HR is about being a coach, a listener, and a problem-solver - putting the ‘human’ back in Human Resources.

What do you enjoy most about working in local government?

It's the ability to see the direct impact of our work on the community. Every initiative, project, or decision has a tangible effect on the daily lives of residents, and that’s both motivating and rewarding. I also love the variety - no two days are the same. One day I might be working on policies and compliance, and the next I’m planning an employee appreciation event or supporting a department through a workplace challenge. That balance of strategy and people-focus keeps the work meaningful and dynamic.

I also value the opportunity to grow and give back through professional networks. I love being part of the AMCTO Mentorship Program as a mentor, and my involvement with OMHRA and its committees has allowed me to collaborate, share best practices, and contribute to the broader municipal HR community.

Most importantly, I enjoy working alongside dedicated colleagues who care deeply about serving the public. Being part of a team that’s committed to making our community stronger is what makes this work so fulfilling.
