Why did you get involved with/pursue a career in local government?

I grew up in a household where community involvement and municipal politics were part of everyday conversation. My parents were deeply engaged in local issues, and those dinner table discussions sparked a lifelong interest in how local government shapes the places we live. That early exposure helped me see the real-world impact of municipal decisions, from parks and public spaces to policies that affect our daily lives.
Working in local government has given me the opportunity to be part of that impact. I love the work we do at the municipal level; it's tangible, meaningful, and rooted in service. I especially value the chance to collaborate directly with elected officials, residents, and colleagues who care deeply about our community. It’s a career I’m proud of, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

What is one thing members of the public would be surprised to learn about your role?

As a municipal clerk, my role goes far beyond taking minutes and managing council agendas. One thing that might surprise people is how central the clerk’s office is to upholding transparency and democratic processes in local government. From running municipal elections and maintaining official records, to ensuring public access to information and supporting legislative compliance, we’re involved in nearly every aspect of civic life. It’s a behind-the-scenes role with a front-line impact and I’m proud to help make local government work for everyone.

What do you enjoy most about working in local government? 

As a municipal clerk, what I enjoy most is being at the heart of local democracy and community service. The clerk’s role has evolved significantly—no longer just administrative, it now plays a strategic part in shaping how municipalities operate and engage with residents.

Today, clerks are champions of transparency, innovation, and citizen-focused governance. We help ensure that council decisions are made openly and effectively, that public records are accessible and accurate, and that democratic processes like elections run smoothly and fairly. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work we do directly supports the community and helps build trust in local government.

Being part of this transformation, where the clerk’s office is recognized as a key contributor to modern governance, is both exciting and fulfilling. It’s a privilege to serve the Town of Ajax and to help make local government more responsive, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
