Director of Legislative Services & City Clerk
City of Thunder Bay
"The role of the clerk is often understated but it is an incredible role to play in local government! #ClerksRule"
About Me:
I am a mom of a grown son who is infinitely awesome. My husband and I love spending our summers at our camp (not a cottage) and enjoying time outdoors. I am also lucky enough to have amazing friends, my girl squad is the Justice League, because we are all Wonder Women!
Why did you get involved with/pursue a career in local government?
I have spent almost my entire 25-year career working for government, both municipal and provincial. I am a public servant through and through and believe strongly that my work is ultimately in service to our community. I care about Thunder Bay and want to be a part of it's history, it's growth and prosperity. Municipal government is the closest to the people and therefore it gives me a great opportunity to connect with community on a daily basis.
What is one thing members of the public would be surprised to learn about your role?
Under the Marriage Act, the municipal clerk is granted the authority to officiate civil marriage ceremonies. In Thunder Bay, we hire marriage commissioners to do this work on behalf of the city, however I do officiate a few weddings each year, generally for people in my life who invite me to take a special part in their big day. Last year I had the privilege of officiating the weddings of my brother and my oldest niece!
What do you enjoy most about working in local government?
I am grateful to be a part of the history of our city and to connect with the public in my work. Being a city clerk is one of the most long-standing roles in government. I am proud and privileged to serve my city!
