Toronto’s Election Visitor Program - Democracy in Focus: Elections, Trust and Innovation

As part of Toronto’s Election Visitor Program, we’ve put together a day of programming for municipal and provincial election administrators coming to Toronto from across Canada. The program has come together so well, and we have such a strong group of speakers, that I wanted to extend the invitation to our colleagues in Zone 4 as well.

I recognize, of course, that the timing could hardly be worse. The session is on Sunday, October 25, the day before Election Day, and I know your focus will be on delivering your own election. There is absolutely no expectation that you’ll be able to attend, but if you can spare a few hours, we’d be delighted to have you join us for part or all of the day.

Democracy in Focus: Elections, Trust and Innovation
A cross-jurisdictional discussion on strengthening local democracy

Sunday, October 25 | 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Toronto City Hall | Council Chamber & Members Lounge

The program will bring together election administrators from provinces and municipalities across Canada for keynote speakers, panel discussions and participant spotlights focused on the future of local democracy through the lens of election administration.

The discussions will explore successes, challenges and lessons learned in areas including election administration, public engagement, strengthening public trust, emerging technologies and other issues of shared interest across jurisdictions.

Our keynote speakers include:

  • Anton Boeman, the new Foreign Interference Commissioner
  • Stephanie Reid, Executive Deputy Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of State
  • Greg Essensa, Ontario’s Chief Electoral Officer

If you can get away for part or all of the program, we’d be very pleased to have you. And please feel free to pass this invitation along to members of your team who may be interested or able to join us.

If you or someone from your team would like to attend, please let Jing Deng know by October 23.

Best,
John D. Elvidge
