Join us for an overview of freedom of information (FOI) legislation, the FOI manual, and how to process requests. From receiving a request through review, third-party notifications, disclosures, and appeals, this workshop is essential for anyone new to FOI or practitioners looking for a refresher. We will also spend some time reviewing the exemptions from disclosure, what they mean, and how they can be used.

Matthew Trennum
City Clerk, City of Hamilton
Matthew began his career as a certified clinical research coordinator, having obtained a B.Sc. in biomedical neuroscience from the University of Guelph and a research post-graduate certificate from Humber College. Following this, he worked for Niagara’s office of the regional clerk for 10 years in several roles where he was responsible for privacy, access to information, corporate policies and procedures, and records management. After two years as city clerk for the City of Thorold, Trennum is now the city clerk for the City of Hamilton. In this position, he oversees the privacy and FOI programs, responsible for corporate access and privacy.
