Michael Monk

Michael Monk has been an employee of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for over 33 years. During this time, he has worked extensively with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). Michael currently works in the CRA Headquarters, GST/HST and Digital Compliance Directorate, where he has managed CRA’s National GST/HST presentations and conference services for the last seven years.

Previously, Michael was a team leader and Senior Technical Interpretations Analyst for 10 years in GST/HST Rulings, Legislative Policy and Regulatory Affairs branch. He also spent several years working in the Compliance Programs branch, including a 10-year period in which he served as a CRA Facilitator, developing and instructing various GST/HST legislation and audit courses to staff. 

Michael has worked on numerous GST/HST issues, across multiple business lines throughout Canada. He has attended a number of conferences, preparing and delivering GST/HST presentations for many public sectors and industry associations. Outside of his day-to-day work, Michael volunteers with community groups and has served on the Board of Directors of a large national charity. He has also served on CRA’s Employee Assistance Program Committee.
