Hi everyone! A resident of our municipality has requested a letter to accompany his application for a police record check, which is required for his application to become a driver with Uber. He explained that Uber is unable to provide such a request because he would be working as an independent contractor rather than an employee. He was advised by the police service that, in lieu of an agency letter, he could obtain a letter from the municipality they must register with to support his application. Is this common practice? If you supply such request letters, do you charge for the service? Note that our municipality does not require registration for taxis or ridesharing services at the moment.

Uber will ask to ensure they…
Uber will ask to ensure they have municipal permission to operate within the municipality. Most larger municipalities will have licensing processes in place where Uber registers as a company, and all their drivers fall under that license, this would be in lieu of that.
As for the letter fees, you can only charge for what your Council has approved through policy, if you have a fee for professional letters, that is the fee i would use.
