As they say in sports, the best defence is a good offence. This is also true for privacy breaches within the municipal sector. The more checks and balances, mechanisms, and training that you can put in place to prevent privacy breaches from happening, the better prepared you will be to respond to ones that occur.

In this session, we'll look at how small municipalities can use the resources they already have and share resources with other municipalities to create an effective and responsive privacy breach protocol. Join us to get a clear understanding of the resources available to you, identify what resources you may be missing, and how you can develop a legislatively adequate protocol that works and can be helpful to other organizations.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the resources required to develop an effective privacy breach protocol
  • Be prepared to address legislative needs for developing a privacy breach protocol
  • Recognize and understand key elements to include as part of your privacy breach response to set your organization up for success
  • Develop practical strategies for creating a privacy breach protocol for your small municipality and walk away with a template you can modify to fit your needs

Pamela Lupa
Manager, Corporate Records, City of London

Pamela holds a master's degree in library and information sciences from the University of Western Ontario. After a brief dip into the museum field, Pamela began pursuing her true passion — records management — in Norfolk County in 2015. She joined the City of Brantford in 2016 as the supervisor of records, print, and freedom of information (FOI) services, a position that included the privacy portfolio for the corporation. It was here that she learned the true value of managing privacy from the corner of your desk, as well as tips and tricks for staying on top of the portfolio. In April 2024, Pamela landed back in her hometown of London as the manager of corporate records.
